Blogger Cannot Upload Images At Present

I am reduced to producing posts without images at present. Having discovered that this is currently a problem with Blogger (and known to them) I will be posting text only updates until the problem is resolved OR UNTIL I GET FED UP AND USE ANOTHER PROVIDER.

UPDATE: 3rd May - seems to be working now.

Latest Site Statistics

Since I am about to be verified by Blog Rush I thought I might update the statistics for the site.

The title link provides statistics up to the 100th post. Up until that post I was posting 0.228833 per day or 1.6 times per seven day week.

Since then, various posting issues have been resolved.

In the last 20 days there have been 35 posts. This is 1.75 posts per day or 12.25 posts per seven day week.

Deleted Post re Sebastian Coe and Tim Henman

I deleted a post this morning. I do not normally do this. I decided, however, that the conclusions I had drawn (that Lord Coe and Tim Henman were liars and hypocrites) did not necessarily follow from my premises (that they had each made public statements in support of the Chinese Olympics).

My conclusions were non sequiturs. Whatever difficulties I may have had with their arguments, it is entirely possible that they are sincerely espousing beliefs that they genuinely hold. I therefore entirely withdraw all and any such allegations, whether or not I made them or not and whether or not any record of any such allegations survive on the internet or not.

By way of recompense I only include entirely positive images of our two heroes.

Postscript on Site Maintenance:

I am getting the hang now of the new google run dashboard. This means that I might be cluttering up the internet some morewith what is essentially no more than a medieval day book.

The 100th Post

I have now managed 100 posts without any (or much) feedback. This may be a record. Well, at least, most people would have given up by now.

Statistics

The first post was on 24th January 2007.

That is 437 days ago.

The average number of posts per day is therefore 0.228833.

It looks better if you use a 5 day working week, take off bank holidays, 5 weeks annual leave and weekends. My average then is 2.7297534 posts per day.

I just thought you might be interested. Even if you do not exist.

Sidebar Problem Resolved

I was having a problem with the sidebar being moved to the bottom of the page.

I eventually found The Real Blogger Status: What Blogger Won't Tell You. This site is excellent and guided me to a solution. Anyone having a problem with Blogger should make this their first resort.

My problem was in one post (Comrade Durova's Response). I deleted the image (which was the problem) and everything worked again.

This was a quick fix but The Real Blogger has more permanent solutions that I will implement shortly.

The January 2008 Archive is Screwed

The January 2008 Archive is corrupt. It is probably to do with the google changes. Ah, well.

It seems that it will continue to affect the current page until January posts no longer appear. That is a guess. It may be worse.

Whatever the cause (and it might be my fault) all the right hand links appear at the bottom; but not if you go to the February 2008 archive page which also contains this post and the one below.

Whether "affect" should be "effect" in the first sentence of the previous but one paragraph is the subject of my monthly quiz question - now instituted. They may not be monthly and they may not be questions. They may occur more or less than once a month and they may simply invite an opinion rather than an answer.

This Blog is Unsafe!

Blogger is preventing me posting securely.

The new link up with Google requires a google account to access your blogger account and make posts. Fine.

But you have to set your security settings very low.

The Q&As lead you to believe that this is not the case. You would think that you could get away with high-medium or medium settings in IE7 but I simply cannot. I have followed Blogger's detailed instructions several times to no avail.

To get this post up I have had to remove all security and I will not do that long term.

Something must be done!

Please treat the above as if it was handwritten in green ink and was signed off "Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells."

Test

Test blog. My ISP had reset my ftp password so I could not publish the next few blogs on the date they were written. They automatically appeared when changed the password in blogger to connect properly to my website. Explanation over.

Service Resumed

Service is now resumed. Lethargy and lack of any comments have been the main reasons for the break but the other reason is that I have not been able to reconnect to my main website and subsidiary to that is the fact that I have not wanted to publicise the blog until the main site was working correctly. Maybe that is the reason I receive no comments!

New Blogger Layout No Good for Personal Hosters

One might say that this post is biting the hand that feeds it but the main advantage of the new blogger accounts seems to be the layout tool. This appears not to work unless you host your site at blogger and and the layout tool does not provide sufficient added value to make the change from hosting at a personal website (for those of us who like the comfort of that) worthwhile.

"The new drag-and-drop template feature, Layouts, is not available for blogs published via FTP. Update, 12/18: Because Layouts relies heavily on new Blogger’s dynamic serving of pages, this is unlikely to be supported soon if ever."

Please note the words "if ever."

Site Maintenance = Boring Post

I have had a little trouble with site maintenance over the past few days. This had to do with my using google's blogger but hosting the blog on my own site. I started fiddling with the files outside of blogger and seem to have created conflicts. If you can see this post the conflicts have been resolved and I can start posting again. You may wonder why I am bothering since so far I have an audience of 1. You know who you are, Tina. All blogs take time to build an audience, so we will see.

My answer to Tina's comment on an earlier post is as follows:
